South landing area - Bald Hill

Wollongong City Council has advised that, starting from Tuesday Feb 2nd 2016, work will commence in the south landing area to lay underground services. This will necessitate the digging of a ditch through the landing area and the erection of safety fencing around the works. Work is expected to take 2 to 3 weeks depending on the weather. Effectively the landing area will be closed to all flight operations and pilots are required to land on the beach. Council is aware of the disruption this will cause and will attempt to minimise the closure period.

Pilots attempting to use the top south landing area do so at their own risk and are reminded that landing on the point is forbidden under club rules and any pilot doing so can expect to have his flying privileges reviewed.

At a later date, further works involving the construction of a sewerage plant near the monument will also impact upon the area. These disruptions are regrettable but are outside the control of the club. Please keep a close eye on the club’s Facebook page for further updates.
